Starting paraview fails was created by Mark Couwenberg
A fresh install of caelinux 2007 on a 20MB partition works perfect. I am using it so far especially for CFD calcs using OpenFOAM. I used Salome for preprocessing, OpenFOAM for CFD. All this works perfect.
However, I am not able to start paraview, needed for viewing results of OpenFOAM. Before caelinux, I used OpenSUSE 10.3 with all applications installed separately. This worked.
What happens:
When I start paraview (either using paraview or ParaFoam), I get some warnings regarding LIBGL and GLX issues. Then, for a split second paraview opens, the GUI becomes visible but than the system stops and logs out. The "switch current user" window becomes visible and I have to log in again.
Note once more that on a previous install on OpenSUSE with exactly the same version (paraview-2.4.4) everything worked fine.
Hope someone can provide some help.

Brgds,

Mark

Some additional information:
based on other fora I installed mesa-source in the package manager. Now I do not get any warnings regarding LGX anymore, however, the system still shuts down.

Latest information:
Resolved the problem by installing the latest version of paraview (3.2.1).
Note that the bashrc file in OpenFoam has to be updated as well.

Hi,

I have also experienced problems with Salome & OpenGL crashing my X-server. This was caused by an upgrade of Mesa Library from 6.5 to 7.0.. Your problem may be related to this one too---

Thank you for the information!
