Is CAE Linux the right tool for me ?

Hi everyone,

I am far from being a specialist in this kind of engineering software. I'm looking for the right software for a very special need and I would greatly appreciate that some of you could tell me if CAE Linux package may help.

I am a blacksmith and knifemaker. As part of my work, I make damascus steel. Damascus steel is a kind of puff paste made with multiple layers of different steels. This "puff paste" is folded and forge welded many times in order to multiply the number of layers. Then it may be twisted, or other kind of deformation, and eventually folded and forge welded again... At the end you get a steel bar which you can mill and polish. Then it is etched with acid in order to show the patterns of the layers. This gives beautiful patterns which are very appreciated for knife making.

As you can imagine, it's quite difficult to figure what is going on with with the layersd inside your steel bar when you're appying deformations, foldings and re-weldings.
So I've been looking for a software that could simulate and graphically show these deformations and the resulting patterns INSIDE the bar by virtally cutting it and showing what's inside.

So, if anyone can help be telling whether or not the CAE package could be usefull for simulation of pattern welding...

Thanks a lot and kind regards,

Bernard

Kind regards,
