Hi forum,
i´ve a few questions concerning the LiveDVD. If i understood correctly you are able to install the
content of the DVD or run it without installing.
Iám using SUSE 10.1 Linux. Are there any problems with compatibility with the Live DVD ? Are there all software
-requirements to run the programs which comes with the
DVD installed on it ?
There comes OpenFoam 1.2 with your package. For example, if
i want to work with OpenFoam 1.4, is it hard to change ?
For the beginning there are enough questions.
best regards
Marcus

Hello,
yes you are right, you can run the LiveDVD on its own or install the distro to your harddisk.
Concerning the compatibility:
This is the main purpose of the liveDVD : testing the compatibility with your hardware. So you will just need to start from the LiveDVD and see if your hardware is detected properly. The most frequent hardware compatibility problems are usually related to graphics drivers. So if it runs well for you on the LiveDVD, it means that it will run well when installed.
Software compatibility: If you can run CAELinux DVD, you will be able to run all the included softwares.
CAELinux is based on PCLinuxOs distribution, so you can also install all kind of softwares from PCLinuxOs package repositories. If softwares are missing in the repository, you can compile these from source. But as PCLinuxOs is significantly different from Suse, you will not be able to simply copy programs between these two distro.
Change from OpenFOAM 1.2 to 1.4 can be rather complicated if you want to make it available for all users (installation in /opt) but can be much more simple if you install OpenFOAM 1.4 in your HOME directory. So if you have previously installed OpenFOAM 1.4, it will not be difficult, but I have to say that the installation procedure of OpenFOAM can be a bit tricky...
If you have the time to wait, next release will include OpenFOAM 1.4 with a completely new OS & recent drivers (PCLinuxOs2007).
