Dear CAELinux users,

here is a small \"how to\" to solve video driver / detection issues when starting from DVD or HDD.

In most cases, if there is a problem with the detection / config of your video card, you will end up in a console environment with a black background. The following steps will help you get back the graphic environment.

1) If it is not already the case, login as root (pass: root).
2) type \"video\" to start the graphic driver configurator.
3) change your video driver to \"Xorg => Vesa\".
Note that in this application, you need first to select the menu you wish to enter with the arrow keys and then with Tab, select the \"Do\" button to enter.
4) run \"test\" to check the config
5) if it works, select \"Quit\"
6) back in the shell: type \"startx\" to start the KDE environment.
7) in the graphic env. you can reconfigure your hardware in PcLinuxOs Control Center or install a proprietary driver from the /opt/helpers/drivers subdirectoris (see www.caelinux.org/wiki/index.php/Doc:GettingStarted for more informations)

Alternative option from the liveDVD:

you can try to boot in one of the alternative \"Framebuffer\" mode. This should work 99% of the time, but you will have limited functionnalities in this mode.
Note that with the Frambuffer driver, you cannot run 3D OpenGL applications, to do so, you will need to switch to VESA or other drivers in PcLinuxOs Control Center. To test OpenGL support, run the command \"glxgears\" from a shell.

Boot option in grub

in the Grub boot menu, you can also edit the boot optionsby pressing \"e\". Then, edit the first line by pressing \"e\" again and add \"xdrv=vesa\" at the end of the line. Press Enter and then \"b\" to boot with this new option.
