New user issue was created by Evan
Dear sir,
My PC system is Windows XP, PENTIUM 4, 2.53GHz AND 768 MB RAM, no Linux installed.
I just downloaded CAELinuxBeta3b-VMware version, should I
burn four seperate files of CAELinuxBeta3b and VMware-player-1.0.3 into one DVD together ? or due to DVD size, can I burn them to two DVDs ?
Should I run VMware-player first ? and then boot CAELinuxBeta3b ? or other procedures ?
Can I run Salomé without Linux installed by using VMware version in my PC ?
Can I use other pre & post processors instead of Salomé ?
IF YES, What is data format can be compiled by CELinuxBeta3b ?
Is there any model size limit in Salomé and CAELinuxBeta3b ?
Thanks
Evan

Hi
When you have downloaded the files, the first thing is to choose which version of CAELinux you will use:
- the simplest option if you have more than 512Mb ram & more than 10Gb free on your harddisk is to install the VMWare version
- if you want to have a native installation of Linux on your PC for a better performance, you should select the LiveDVD option.
To use the selected version, you should follow the instructions given here:
www.caelinux.com/CMS/index.php?option=co...;id=32&Itemid=40
So to make it short, you should not burn directly the files you have downloaded... so read the previous instructions and everything should work smoothly.
And some other answers:
- Salome has no size limit except the limits imposed by the amount of RAM available on the system
- The other pre processors packaged with CAELinux are: GMSH v2 (generic mesher/post with STEP/IGES support), CGX (Calculix pre-post), ElmerFront (for ELMER)
- The format of the mesh/result files depend on the pre-post & solver that you select. Salome uses MED and UNV for meshes and MED for post-pro, GMSH can save in a large variety of formats etc.. There are also some mesh converters mainly from UNV to other formats (Abaqus/Calculix inp, Impact, OpenFOAM etc..)

Hello,
Thanks for your detailed reply.
I have installed VMWare version successfully.
Can I import 2D AutoCad file in Iges to Salomé , and then
build 3D model in Salomé ?
Thanks

Hi,
yes, this seems a good approach and it should work.
