torrents of beta 3a iso / vmware version was created by brekki
Why is the torrent tracker only showing old versions, and not new ones. I'd like to download by torrent, because resuming is so much easier, and if people would keep seeding -> downloading could be faster than the website.
(now going at 50 KB/sec, so 10 hours remaining)
I'd love to try this distro but can only hope my computer and network will stay stable for a while.

Post edited by: brekki, at: 2007/02/15 18:32

Hello,
I agree that the bittorrent protocol is ideal for a safe & efficient distribution of large files, but unfortunatelly it also has some drawbacks, mainly for the provider of the files, especially when all he can afford is a web site!!
In the present case, the first release of CAELinux was distributed by a Bittorrent web-seeding script, but this system created some big issues with our web hosting: performance overload of the servers & high bandwidth on our main website. The problem was also that the ratio of data downloaded directly from our site and the bytes downloaded by other \"seeders\" was too high to justify the system (more than 250 Gb/month from our main website = a nice and heavy bill at the end of the month!! )
In the mean time, an external mirror was kindly proposed and was (at this time) totally capable of fullfilling the demand...
But now with the increasing success of CAELinux, we are again facing a problem of volume of downloads, and I am trying to re-establish a bittorrent \"alternative\". I cannot promise, but I am searching for some options in this direction.
PS: at the moment, the volume of downloads per month is >700Gb/month !!!
