upgrade pclinuxOS was created by florante
hi!

CaeLinux is now built with PCLinuxOS .92. This version of linux is not detecting my hardwares well like my video card and monitor. I have installed it though but only has 800x600 resolution available. So Im planning to upgrade it to current PCLinuxos .94. Have anybody tried this?

Thank you very much.

Hi,

from the people who experienced it at PcLinuxOs.com, it seems that there is no \"safe\" upgrading to 0.94 from previous versions, mainly due to a big jump in glibc & gcc versions used during compilation.

But you can upgrade smoothly from 0.92 to 0.93 after installing CAELinux on harddisk by using Synaptics (you will need a \"fast\" internet connection). Just select all updated packages and go.

Concerning hardware compatibility, you should first try to upgrade your kernel to more recent one (2.6.16 for example). This can be done once again with Synaptics.

But, if you can wait a couple of weeks, I will release CAELinux beta 3b soon and it will be based on a fully updated version of PcLinuxOs (latest packages, equivalent to 0.93) with a recent kernel & Xorg. This release will also include RPMs for simple & fast installation of other kernels (i686-4gb and SMP-4gb) as well as 3D drivers for ATI & NVIDIA graphic cards.

Hi!

Thank you very much for the info.
Maybe I have to wait for that new release. I can not use Synaptics at home since I do not have a descent internet connection. I am only using my phone 3G to connect to the internet and it is soooo slow.

Please let me know if the new CAELinux will be out.
It is a good thing that you improve the installation process. I have a descent machine but it took almost an hour to install.

If you have also a chance please include a good driver for LCD monitors. Ubuntu and Mandriva2007 failed in displaying a good desktop in a wides screen monitors.

For now I might just go ahead and try the VM version. it is showing better than the actual installation.

Thank you very much and I really appreciate your efforts in putting this up. Two thumbs up for you.

Best regards,
Florante
