				Hi,
Except for elmer, is there any other open source FEA code that can handle conjugate heat transfer (conduction for solid and convection for fluid) with complex geometry (import from CAD)?
Code_ASTER probably can do it, but, I have not found a tutorial of how to do this in Code_Aster yet.
Any help is highly appreciated.

				Hi,
unfortunatelly, I don't know other softwares than Elmer for that... maybe OpenFOAM?
Code-Aster cannot solve fluid flow, but contains a simple boundary condition of type \"convective heat flux\" (using a convection coefficient... so no heat transport simulation via the \"fluid\").
So in my opinion, it would be better to keep Elmer for that problem (if it works well at least).
If you find another open-source code to solve such problem, don't hesitate to tell me, I am always interested in feedbacks from users of open source codes.
Good luck

I notice that this post is a couple years old, have there been any developments since 2006? (In terms of other open source FEA code that can handle conjugate heat transfer).

				Hi,
in fact, the following codes can solve this type of problems:
- Elmer (multiphysics code, Finite Elements)
- OpenFOAM (general PDE toolbox mainly oriented towards flow modelling , Finite Volumes)
- Code-Saturne coupled with Syrthes, but Syrthes is not yet included in CAELinux (Code-Sature = Finite Volume CFD solver, Syrthes = heat transfer / radiation)
I think that this is already a nice set of softwares, which are all rather well interfaced with Salome or GMSH for pre-processing. The only issue is the learning curve: rather steep!
I hope that this will help you in making a choice.

In Code-Saturne 1.3.1 has been already included Syrthes or not?
