Open Foam and unv mesh conversion was created by Michael Page
Hi,

Someone writed a software that make the conversion unv to foam for Open Foam. So, we can use Salome mesh with this program.

However, I don't know very well Open Foam and I'm not able to use it. I write this post with the hope that someone can write a little tutorial to install unvtofoam and with the basic step to use it.

You can find unv to foam at:

openfoam.cfd-online.com/cgi-bin/forum/discus.cgi

Click OpenFoam, Meshing / Mesh conversion, Open source, Salome 3.2.1 and unv

Thanks

Hi,

thank you for this important information. Unfortunatelly, I am not a specialist of OpenFOAM, but form the file content of this plugin, i can say that it must be an OpenFOAM-specific procedure to add this \"plugin\" to your installation of OpenFOAM.
As this is an OpenFOAM specific problem, you might be more lucky if you ask this question on openFOAM forums...

Good luck and if you find the answer, don't forget to post it here also.

Hi,

I have been following this OpenFOAM/unv stuffs closely on the OpenFOAM forum. At this point, that unvToFoam conversional tool is not general enough - it only reads Tet elements. Hopefully, someone can generalize that tool to support both tet and hex elements + groups.

Hi,

I know that unvToFoam is currently basic but it will help to make open source CFD more popular with the possibility to make complexe mesh with Salome. So, I want to learn how to use these open source tools together.

So, the guys who develop unvtofoam write a tutorial in the forum. Althought, I cannot pass the step 3. I think that wmake is not implented in CAE Linux.

Is someone can help me to resolve this problem please.

Thanks,

Michael Page

Hi,

I never run OpenFOAM from CAELinux. The easiet way is to install OpenFOAM on a linux machine. then, you should be able to compile the unvToFoam code and run it.

Hi,

I have tried unvToFoam today, within \"CAE command line tools\" console in \"guest\" account: everything works 100% correctly, wmake compile the code and it runs smoothly then.

(CAELinux version pre Beta 3... but should be similar to beta 2 for OpenFOAM)

REMINDER:
to run any OpenFOAM related tool, you need absolutely:
- if logged as \"root\" or \"guest\": use \"CAE command line tools\" console, and work only in /home/guest/OpenFOAM/guest_1.2 (for guest) or /root/OpenFOAM/root_1.2 (for root). Also do only start FoamX from one of these directories.
- if logged in a custom account: you need first to copy /root/.bashrc-CAE in your home dir and use then Command line tools... not tested 100% but should work then.

It took me a long time to setup OpenFOAM for multiuser access... so try to use the predefined accounts (root or guest)
