Machinist not a programmer was created by Horizontal Company
I really appreciate the work programmers do and I notice that alot of the discussion centers around correcting lines of code. While I can learn enough programming to change short sections of code I am not a programmer. I am a Machinist who needs to design, virtually test, and then generate G-code to build a part. I was interested in some programs in CAELinux before I found this DVD.
HERE IS AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT I NEED:
In original Mathcad you could draw an object and it would generate a formula for the part. I could manipulate the formula and it would change the shape and vice versa. I would like to enable engineering software to see stress on the part and aerodynamic flow around it in addition to heat and thermal transfer which may lead to a lowering of material strength which would be indicated in the engineering stress analysis of the part.
Are the programs in CAELinux already linked so they will share data or do I have to export/import to each program?
Has anyone written subroutines to link any of the programs?
Is there a way to link programs that do not use the same base language?

Unfortunately, the different programs aren't linked as well as you want them to be. It is not that easy to do iterative design and test like 'changing one parameter, testing, changing parameter and retesting.
For linear statics, SaloméMECA does this okay, if you've set up your model parametrically, but it does not compare to any of the advanced commercial packages out there - not by a long shot.
For CFD (flow simulation) there have been some advances lately with Helyx OS which makes iterative design simpler, but you would still need to export and import models for each test run.
That said, if you know python programming you can automate a lot of this.

I had a feeling that Python would be the link I needed; but not being a programmer i had to wait for confirmation. The source code of the part's program is in Python and it was a search for that which led me to CAE Linux. I expected to have to export/import every step when I took on this project. Glad there is a ray of light even if its between the teeth of a Python.
I never expected this to be easy but my youthful reading of Sherlock Holmes certainly paid-off today
... Humm one wonders what use Poe will be
Now to determine which will have a significant speed increase:
A server with four chips on one motherboard
or ............................................................... THE CHIPS USED WILL BE THE SAME FOR BOTH
Connect four two-chip motherboards as one server

Just searched --> GPU parallel ...got zero results
Does anyone know what kind of GPU works best with each of the programs in CAE Linux that allows parallel processing?

None that I know of.
Paraview can visualize results with GPU acceleration - I belive it is still experimental though.
For visualization and 3D modelling, just about any (nVidia) GPU will suffice.
