Do NOT UPGRADE CAELINUX 2013 to UBUNTU 14.04 was created by Joël Cugnoni
Dear all

sorry for warning you so late about the issue,
but I would like to clearly state that your installation of CAELinux 2013 will be "bricked" if you try to upgrade to Ubuntu 14.04.
This is simply because some CAELinux 2013 packages will be simply removed during the upgrade process and this will
1) remove many usefull software that you need
2) cause side effects such as generating errors in terminal (see caelinux.com/CMS/index.php?option=com_ku...d=7793&Itemid=300025)

SO DO NOT UPGRADE YOUR CAELINUX 2013 INSTALLATION TO UBUNTU 14.04 !

You can however safely run the automatic updates!

Please note also:
1) if you get an error related to GPG key with Gerris (Popinet) repository, you can simply comment the only line of /etc/apt/sources.d/gerris and the automatic security updates will run smoothly.
2) Please make sure that you update at least the bash package to fix an important security issue (Shellshock vulnerability):
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install bash
should make it!

Sorry for these problems, but as long as CAELinux is not officially ported to Ubuntu 14.04 any upgrade will cause issues.

Best Regards

Joel Cugnoni

Now ya tell me. It seems that the terminal works as root. Will try a few things.

It's not recommended and may differ from system to system. Check closely for permission problems and missing files. I've slept since then, although I recall another more detailed post, pasted here:

There are things that better wizards can handle more gracefully. I :

suspected a permission or missing file problem
changed the offending permissions - no errors, window still died
tried installing an alternate emulator -no change
looked for dependencies
installed openfoam231
found some openfoam 201 entries in some .bashrc files, changed to '231' entries

I think it may be related to a new release of bash and the deletion of OpenFoam during the upgrade. It was wierd though, the emulator worked fine when logged in as 'root'. I doubt OpenFoam worked as it was no longer there.

It is not bricked. Everything works. Although, some of this stuff I'm still figuring out. When I know it all, please shoot me.

Every garden is different. Log in as root. See if the emulator works. Try fixing the permissions. Try installing OpenFoam. Pay attention.

Still not sure if I like the rodent. Good luck.

Peace,
Gary
